How to Learn Heating and Air Conditioning

Working on air conditioners and heating systems require skill and training. People who are interested in learning the trade can take classes to help them become employable. There are many schools and other organizations that offer the educational and training needed for the field.

• Visit the community colleges in your area. Most schools offer a program that will enable students to work with air conditioners and heating system units.


• Find an apprentice program. There are many programs that allow individuals interested in working in the fieldwork along side other licensed HVAC workers. As these individuals work with licensed workers they learn the skill.


• Teach yourself by reading material online and from the library. There are many books that will help educate you on learning how to work on air conditioners and heating units. Individuals working on air conditioners will need to be licensed to use Freon. You may also still be required to pass a state test in order to work in the air conditioning and heat in your area.


• Check for online webinars, instead of going to a seminar in person, you can sit at home and watch people teach you about the HVAC industry.


• Utilize the Internet to find different schools and programs that may be offering the heating and air conditioning courses. Some two-year colleges offer certificate programs and other schools offer diploma programs. It is important to do good research to find out which program will be recognized in the area where you plan to work.
