How to Light an LP Gas Heater
Liquid propane gas heaters are used for heating outdoor areas such as a patio or camping spot on a cool evening. While liquid propane heaters are great for such uses, they can be dangerous and should never be used indoors or when any part of the propane tank or heater is damaged. Lighting a liquid propane gas heater can easily be done following simple and safe steps.
What You’ll Need
- A liquid propane tank
- Gas heater
- Spray bottle
- Water
- Liquid dish soap
- Connect one end of the gas line to the regulator located on the gas heater. Line up the threads on the regulator and heater fitting and tighten. There is a hole in the base of the heater that the gas line must be run through.
- Set the liquid propane tank on the heater base and connect the other end of the gas line, hand tightening until snug.
- Mix a small amount of liquid dish soap with water in a spray bottle. Make sure all of the control knobs on the heater are off and open the gas valve on the propane tank.
- Spray the dish soap solution on your connections and watch them for a minute; check to see if there are any bubbles. Bubbling would indicate that your connections need to be tightened. If this happens, turn off the valve and secure your connections then try again.
- Turn the gas valve off and let the gas dispense for a few minutes.
- Turn the gas valve to on or open.
- Push in the control knob on the heater and turn it to high. Keep the knob pushed in for about 30 seconds to ensure the flame will stay lit. If the flame doesn’t light, turn the knob and gas valve off and wait five minutes then try again.
- Turn the control knob to the setting you choose.
