How to Look Cool With Your Old Clothes
People do not have to empty their wallets every season to have the newest items in clothing. By putting in time and little elbow grease, it is not hard to turn many of the items that have been sitting in the back of the closet into cool new pieces.
- Add new pieces to old outfits. It is cheaper to buy things like belts and scarves to add to old outfits then to buy new pieces of clothing themselves. Cinching an oversized sweater with a belt will make it look like a new sweater dress instead of last year’s sweater.
- Dye pieces of clothing new colors. Those pieces that have fabrics that are durable and easy to dye can be quickly changed into another color. Buying dye at a local store should not cost more than a couple bucks so purchase some and dye a few pieces at once.
- Buy basic items that will be timeless in your wardrobe. A good trench coat or sweater will always be in style. Try to get these types of clothing in neutral colors. This way you will be buying less trendy items and saving to get more pieces that will last a while.
- Learn to sew. You do not have to become the next great fashion designer but it is a good idea to know some basic sewing techniques. With your sewing knowledge, you can sew on new appliqués, buttons and even stitch old items into something new.
- Cut up old shirts. It is easy to take basic T-shirts and make them into tanks, halters and tube tops. Look on the Internet for tutorials on how to give your old shirts new styles.
