How to Lubricate Inline Skate Wheel Bearings
Inline skating, which is commonly referred to as rollerblading, is a very popular recreational sport that is great for exercising. Owning a sturdy pair of inline skates and keeping them well maintained is very important to the safety of the sport.
Properly lubricating your inline skates is a very important maintenance procedure that should be done to keep them operating safely.
- Use an adjustable wrench to remove the wheels from the skates by unscrewing the nut and bolt going through the center of the wheels. You will also need to remove any spaces that may be present. Place them in a container and place them in a safe place so they are not misplaced.
- Use a screwdriver to remove the bearings from the wheels of the skates.
- Examine the bearings for any dirt or grime that may be built up on them.
- Dip a rag in an oil-based cleaning solution and clean the bearings. You can use water based cleaner, but you must use a towel to dry the bearings off before applying the oil.
- Replace the bearing back inside the wheels.
- Apply a couple of drops of bearing lubricant to the wheel bearings. This should be done by applying one drop of oil and then spinning the wheel to work the lubricant into the bearings, and then add another drop of oil and spin the wheel again.
- Replace the wheels back onto the skates. Make sure you put them back together in the same order you took them apart. Do not forget to put the spacers back in if some were removed.
