How to Maintain an Air Conditioning Trane
Trane is a brand-name air conditioner that utilizes a split-central air system. The indoor portion monitors and meters the device, while the outdoor unit contains the compressor and condenser. Both are vital to the operation maintaining cool, healthy air and should have regular maintenance. There are some things the homeowner can do to maintain a cleaner environment for the air-conditioning unit, and some portions of the system must be maintained by professionals.
Homeowner Maintenance
- Clean the area around the condenser/compressor outside your home to keep it free of grass, weeds and bugs. If the unit cannot get constant air flow, it can overheat.
- Spray the area regularly with insect killer. Insects such as Dirt Dobbers, Wasp, Piss Ants etc can build nests in the units and cause electrical problems.
- Change the inside air filter when needed.
- Clean the coils on the inside unit clean.
- Check the components inside an air-conditioning unit. This requires meters and licensed technicians to monitor and make adjustments. However, the homeowner can help to keep the unit functioning more efficiently if the four steps above are done routinely.
Trane Recommended Maintenance for Technicians
- Perform maintenance on the central air unit at least once a year.
- Inspect freon levels.
- Clean inside and outside the air unit's container.
- Inspect the base pan, coils, control box, wiring, relays, circuit boards, the compressor and copper tubing on the outdoor unit.
- Inspect the blower, evaporator coils. Drain lines and drain pan, lubricate motor, replace the fan belt, and look for gas leaks on gas operated indoor units.
Check the System While in Operation for:
- System noises or abnormal noise.
- Find unusual odors—Freon has a strange and specific odor.
- Check for correct refrigerant levels.
- Measure outdoor dry bulb temperature and indoor dry and wet bulb temperatures.
- Check to make sure both high and low pressure are consistent in the unit’s system.
- Measure manifold gas pressure, temperature rise and check for proper venting.
- Check to ensure the system has the proper voltage.
- Maintain the air conditioner's freon and moving parts. This should be done by a professional who will provide the appropriate reports and repairs, or if there needs to be a replacement made.
