How to Make Alkaline Drinking Water

We all know there are many benefits in drinking water.  It is the single most important ingredient that our bodies consume.  Water is the catalyst for good health. In order to achieve the best results and to hydrate your body properly you need to ingest water that is alkaline and mineral rich.  This helps to remove the toxins from your body. There are several quick ways you can make alkaline drinking water at home.

  • Buy a water alkalinity filter - These filters are convenient since they connect directly to your faucet and will produce alkaline water for all of your drinking and cooking needs.

  • Purchase a water ionizing machine - Alkaline ionized water is even better than ordinary alkaline water.  Ionizing machines work by introducing your water to an electrical current to change the properties of the water.  There are several different models on the market and while some are expensive, others are very inexpensive and perform the same basic task.

  • Combine your water with baking soda - Starting with a gallon of water, either from your tap or from a bottle, add approximately a half-teaspoon of baking soda and shake well.  Using a pH test strip, test your water to determine the pH level.  You are attempting to create a water that has a pH between 8.5 and 9.  If your pH registers lower than that, add a little more baking soda and shake it well and remeasure your water.  Different types of water will measure at different levels.  The next time you make it you will have a good idea of how much baking soda your water takes.  Store in the refrigerator but always shake before using.

  • Buy commercial alkaline tablets or drops - These can be found at a health food or nutrition store.  Some big box retailers have also started to carry them.  These come in handy when you are away from home.

  • Add lemon or lime juice to your water - This will give your water the boost that it needs to become alkaline.
