How to Make Award Ribbons
Award ribbons are often handed out to winners and participants in a club, sport or contest. Ribbons can be purchased online or from a variety of local suppliers. To save money and time, you can make your own award ribbons at home using your computer's word processing program and a few other supplies.
Items Needed:
- Fabric or ribbon
- Scissors
- Hole puncher
- String
- Needle and thread
- Transfer paper
- Iron
- Choose a type of fabric or ribbon that you want to use for the award ribbons. Solid colors work best because they allow the lettering to stand out better. Make sure the thickness and size of the ribbon works for the amount and size of lettering you plan to use on the award ribbons.
- Cut the fabric or ribbon to the desired length. Sew a hem on each end of the fabric to prevent it from unraveling. Use a hole punch to make a hole at the top of each ribbon, and tie a small piece of string through the hole. This provides a way for the award ribbons to be displayed.
- Use the word processing program on your computer to create the labels or lettering for the ribbons. Choose a font that is easy to read and a color that will stand out against the color of the fabric or ribbons. Use the "Mirror" or "Backwards" font or tool to make the words appear backwards on the screen.
- Load transfer-printing paper into your printer, and print the ribbon lettering. Line the lettering up on the ribbon, and use an iron to adhere it to the ribbons. Allow the transfer to cool.
