How to Make Baked Goods with Protein Powder

Protein powder does not just need to be used in shakes. Bake with protein powder to make healthy high protein snacks and meals. Use heat stable protein powder in various flavors to bake a variety of items from meats to cookies.

  • Check that the protein powder you are using is “heat stable.” Though most seem to be usable for baking, the “heat stable” label will ensure quality results for your baked goods made with protein powder.

  • Choose a flavor of protein powder that will go well with what you are baking with protein powder. For instance you can make Jell-O or fruit flavored muffins with protein powder, so you would then use a fruit flavored protein powder. Try chocolate or vanilla for other muffins, pancakes cakes, special breads and protein bars.

  • Generally, whey-based protein powder works better than soy based protein powder.

  • Use your regular recipes or family recipes by substituting protein powder for half of the flour the recipe calls for. Use oat flour or whole wheat flour for the other half.

  • Research recipes created for baking with protein powder on the Internet.

  • Sprinkle protein powder on top of cookies before baking them to increase the protein level.

  • Replace bread crumbs or flour to use for dredging and then baking meats such as chicken or fish and vegetables like eggplant or zucchini.

  • Mix protein powder with beaten egg and water to create a batter for dipping meats or vegetables and then bake them instead of frying.

  • Use protein powder in place of flour to make pancakes or waffles.
