How to Make Car Glass Cleaner
Over time road grease, oil and debris build up on the outside of car windows. Oils and other greasy buildup coat the inside of windows. This buildup contributes to blurred vision when driving. Glare from the sun during the day and street and neon lights at night is distorted and increased by dirty glass.
To thoroughly clean buildup from the outside of car windows use the following procedure.
- Gather your cleaning supplies. You need a squeegee with a sponge attachment, a bucket of warm water, a mild detergent or cleaning product made for car windows and cheap paper towels.
- Lift the windshield wiper blades so they stand away from the windshield and clear all debris from the area.
- Thoroughly wet the sponge side of the squeegee in the water and detergent solution.
- Scrub the windshield with the sponge, rinsing the sponge often.
- Flick the excess water from the squeegee
- Stand on one side of the car, either the driver or passenger side, place the rubber blade of the squeegee vertically in the center of the windshield, at the top of the glass. Pull the squeegee toward you while holding it firmly against the glass. The cleaning solution is removed from that strip of glass. Flick the water from the squeegee blade or wipe it with paper towels.
- Repeat step #6 working down from the area you just removed the cleaning solution. Continue to repeat this process until that entire side of the windshield is dry.
- Repeat the process from steps #6 and #7 on the other side of the windshield.
- Place the windshield wiper blades back in their original position.
Continue this process on all car windows. For windows with an excessive amount of dirt or buildup the cleaning process may need to be repeated to make the glass cleaner.
Cleaning the inside of the windows is more difficult because of the lack of space.
- Thoroughly and evenly spray a glass cleaner that cuts grease over the entire window. Cutting the greasy buildup is the key to cleaner glass.
- Rub dry with paper towels or newspaper, changing towels as they become wet.
- Continue to rub the window until it is streak-free.
- Repeat the process until the buildup has been removed from the glass.
