How to Make Gemstone Rings
Making your own gemstone ring is a great alternative to buying an expensive one from a store. Gemstone rings only require a few supplies and are easy to make. With just a little time, you can have your own beautiful gemstone ring without paying a lot of money for it.
Supplies
- Start by purchasing a ring setting, gemstone, tweezers and needle nose pliers.
- Choose any type of gemstone, including rubies, emeralds, sapphires and diamonds.
- Use a setting with four prongs for a princess, emerald or Asscher cut.
- Use a setting with six prongs for an oval, round or Marquisse cut.
- Measure the gemstone to figure out its size, and purchase the same size ring setting.
Steps
- Place the gemstone in the middle of the ring setting using a pair of tweezers.
- Use a pair of needle nose pliers to crimp each one of the prongs over the gemstone.
- Place the tong on the bottom of the pliers underneath the ring setting below the prong that is being tightened.
- Place the other tong of the pliers on top of the prong.
- Apply pressure to the prong, and bend it over the gemstone.
- Use the same steps for the prong that is diagonal to the first prong.
- Keep repeating the same steps for each prong until that are all tightened.
- Make sure to keep moving diagonally, to keep the gemstone from popping out of the ring setting.
Tips
- Try using different combinations of gemstones and ring settings to create different looks.
- Purchase a high quality ring setting, to avoid any skin discoloration.
