How to Make Gift Boxes From Cardboard

If you are the type of person who likes to shower the people in your life with gifts you should consider making your own gift boxes. Boxes can be expensive if purchased from the store and you can save yourself some money by making your own.

Placing a gift in a box is much classier than giving someone a gift in a bag. Some people choose to give their gifts in bags instead of boxes because they are cheaper, but that is not the case if you make your own.

1. Take two same size rectangular pieces of cardboard. You can even use an old cereal box.


2. Take one of the pieces of cardboard and cut 1/8-inch off of one of the sides and off of the one end. This piece will be the top of the box.


3. Place both pieces of cardboard upside down on a flat surface. The smaller piece should be placed on top of the larger piece.


4. Fold one of the edges of the bottom piece of cardboard over the top piece and make a crease.


5. Continue to fold the other three sides the same way.


6. Remove the top piece of cardboard and use the scissors to cut the corners of the box you have folded to make tabs. This should be done so the box will have smooth edges.


7. Hold the folded sides up and secure the cut corners with tape. 


8. Place the top piece on top of the bottom piece and you have now created your very first gift box.
