How to Make Gift Tags
Some people love to wrap presents more than they actually like buying them. Selecting the paper, bows and packaging can be a craft lover’s dream. One more decoration that can be added to a gift is a gift tag. You can customize your packages by making your very own gift tags—just use any of these techniques!
Materials:
- Decorative paper
- Greeting cards
- String or ribbon
- Scissors
- Pinking shears
- Paper hole punch
- Paper punch (in shape of tag)
- Paper reinforcers
- Stickers or stamps
- Pens
Methods:
- Use a store bought tag (such as manila tags available at craft stores) and customize the tag with stickers or stamps. You can choose to make the tag intricate with embossment and color or very simple by just writing a name on the tag. Thread a corresponding ribbon or string through the eyelet and attach to your package.
- Make your gift tags from decorative paper using a paper punch that is shaped as a tag. Using a thicker paper will result in a sturdier tag. You can add embellishments to the paper if desired, and attach via ribbon or string.
- Recycle old greeting cards by cutting out desired images from the cards. You can use pinking shears to cut from the card and add additional flair to the tag (and also cover up any un-straight cuts). Use a paper hole punch to make a hole at the top for the ribbon and if desired, reinforce the hole with paper reinforcer circles. You can then write your greeting on the back portion of the tag.
- Try any of the above combinations to make your own customized gift tags. You can put pictures from greeting cards on store bought tags, use the tag paper punch on the greeting card, or layer papers on the tag to create a fancier tag. The possibilities are only limited by your creativity!
