How to Make Girls Clothes

Making girls' clothing is a great alternative to buying them all the time. It is a way to make something original without spending a lot of money, and kids often love this because they can pick out their own fabric.

  1. Decide on a pattern. You can make your own pattern or buy one. This can be a dress, outfit or even separate shirts, shorts, pants or skirts.

  2. Purchase the correct fabric. Refer to the pattern to determine the amount of fabric you need, as well as the type. Some patterns will work better with a particular fabric type. If you are using more than one fabric design, make sure they coordinate with each other. You do not want your creation to not match or clash in anyway.

  3. Gather other supplies you may need to complete the clothing. This could include thread, needles, and pins. You should check the pattern to determine if you need buttons, zipper or any other additional supplies.

  4. Cut out your pattern and fabric. Use scissor to cut out the pattern then pin it to the fabric. Cut the fabric to the shape of the pattern.

  5. Follow the pattern instructions. Every pattern will have its own instructions. Be sure to follow these exactly and in order. Skipping steps could affect the final product.

  6. Add your own special touches. If you bought a pattern then you may want to make your clothing look more unique. You can add rickrack, ribbons or appliques to accomplish this.
