How to Properly Address Graduation Invitations

How to Make Graduation Invitations on a Computer

Graduations are exciting events designed to commemorate past achievements and look forward to future successes.  Creating graduation invitations on a computer offers a great way to personalize the announcements and make them special.  Learn how to make graduation invitations on a computer so that you can express the excitement of your big day with style.

  1. Choose your paper.  The first step in creating quality graduation invitations on your computer is to choose durable paper.  Heavy card stock paper is the best option because the thickness of each sheet resists creases and wrinkles.  While cotton and linen invitations are also good choices, they may be quite expensive to procure.  If price is an issue, opt for a cotton blend which is more economical and just as beautiful as full cotton paper.  The most prevalent colors for heavy card stock, cotton or linen paper are white and ecru (off-white).  Different colors are available but will take a bit of digging to find.

  2. Create the template.  Using Microsoft Word, open a blank word document and select "file" from the toolbar.  Scroll down to select "new" under the "file" menu and from the available options choose "invitations."  This will open a blank invitation template which is ready for personalization.  Depending on which version of Microsoft Word you have, you may be given several options of potential layouts.  Choose the design that works best for you.

  3. Set the font.  Graduation invitation scripting can be formal or informal based on your personal style.  Garamond, Old Script and Brush Script are three font types that look great on formal invitations.  Arial, Comic Sans or Times New Roman work well for more informal graduation invitations.  Be sure to select a font size that allows all of the information to fit into the allotted space with ease.  Your scripting may appear in traditional black or you can elect a gold or silver font for a dramatic effect.

  4. Insert the information.  The most important facts to include in the invitation are the day, date and time of the ceremony, location where it will be held and the last day to RSVP.  You can include sentimental items such as pictures of the graduate, poetry or other words of wisdom and even special gift requests.

  5. Enclose into envelopes.  Once you have completed the invitations, finish up by inserting them into envelopes for distribution.  Traditional invitation envelopes measure 6-by-9-1/2 inches and provide the perfect finishing touch for the graduation invitations that you created on a computer.
