How to Make Healthy Snacks Fun for Kids
It is important to get your kids to eat healthy snacks instead of empty calorie junk food. One way to accomplish this is to make healthy snacks fun for kids. There are special ways you can prepare fruit and vegetable snacks that will excite your children and encourage them to eat healthy.
- Freeze soft fruits for teething toddlers. You can do this by cutting up bananas, for example, and placing them in the freezer for an hour or so. They’ll love how the frozen fruit soothes their gums.
- Cut the food into smaller pieces. Kids can be overwhelmed if you put an entire sandwich on a plate and serve it to them. Try cutting healthy treats into small bite-sized pieces. Turn fruit and veggie eating into a counting game by asking your child to count all the bites.
- Make your snacks a work of art. You can do this by building objects from vegetables or fruits. If you don’t have any creative ideas, you can look online to find some examples of snack art.
- Consider purchasing a dehydrator to dehydrate fruits. Make some trail mix for your kids. One problem kids have with eating is that they don’t want to stop playing to do it. If you provide them with a baggie of dried fruit, they can carry around a healthy snack and slowly eat it while they play.
- Have your child help you prepare a snack with healthy ingredients. They’ll be more likely to eat the snack they’ve created.
- Feed younger children their healthy snacks and call them airplanes or trains when you race them toward their mouth making the appropriate noise. This will usually get your child to open their mouth and enjoy healthy foods.
