How to Make Holiday Decorations From Your Garden
One of the wonderful things about a garden is that it not only offers food and outdoor beauty, but it also offers the chance to decorate your home in a variety of ways. When planting your garden, be sure to plant items you can later use in your holiday displays.
When planning your garden remember to plant items that can later be reused in your home for the holidays. Herbs make great decorative items; consider rosemary, lavender and sunflowers.
Winter Holidays
Collect branches from fir trees and the pine cones that are typically scattered around the tree base. Use floral wire to tie branches together to create either a wreath or garland. Attach pine cones with wire and ribbon. Use hot glue to secure the pinecones and ribbon in place.
Sprigs of rosemary tied with ribbon work well to decorate tables for special dinners.
Spring Holidays
Bring in tulips, daisies and daffodils and arrange them in glass jars on tables for brunch. Use the flowers on place cards or to tuck into place settings and napkin rings.
Summer Holidays
The summer months are great for using sunflowers and fruits. Pick berries and melons and turn them into edible centerpieces.
Fall Holidays
If you love growing gourds and pumpkins, then you are all set for your fall holidays. Gourds make great centerpieces; add some leaves from your yard as a runner down the center. Pumpkins look great in random places all over your house. Don’t be afraid to add ribbon, jewels or paint. Gourds and pumpkins both look great with a number of decorative accents.
