How to Make Homemade Pepper Spray

Pepper spray is an effective way to ward off an attacker or predator. You can purchase pepper spray, but save money by preparing your own mixture at home for you and friends and family. Pepper spray does not require a license or permit and eliminates the possibility of seriously injuring another person.

  1. Combine red pepper powder and rubbing alcohol in one jar. Coffee jars, mayonnaise jars, pickle jars, etc. are perfect for keeping on hand when you need to prepare more batches of pepper spray. This recipe formula can be doubled to produce a larger amount. Use enough alcohol to cover over the red pepper powder. Stir the mixture and blend well. Mash the particles if needed. The alcohol and red pepper are agents that result in the burning sensation experienced. Do not touch your face or eyes when preparing the mixture.

  2. Add 10-12 drops of baby oil. Baby oil makes the mixture coat, and the more rubbing, the more the baby oil activates the mixture. Put the lid on the jar and shake to blend.

  3. Place cheesecloth on top of a second jar. It serves as a filter.

  4. Transfer the mixture from the first jar to the second by slowly pouring. The red pepper powder will remain on top of the cheesecloth, and the filtered liquid flows inside the jar. Dispose the cheesecloth and put the liquid into a spray bottle. You may purchase small spray bottles from a grocery store or pharmacy, or even in bulk at some warehouse stores.

  5. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
