How to Make Inexpensive Candle Decorations

Candle decorations can be an inexpensive way to dress up a get together or decorate your home. It is both inexpensive and elegant looking, if done correctly. If you prefer not to burn candles but love the look, try using electronic candles that give off the same light in a safe way.

When decorating with candles you can choose to burn traditional candles or use the newer and safer electronic candles. Some ideas work better with one or the other.

  • Place candles randomly throughout your home or patio; use a larger number of candles to create a bigger impact.

  • Glue pressed flowers, twigs or other decorations to the outside of candles to dress them up.

  • Fill bowls with water; add both floating candles and flowers.

  • Tie ribbon with herbs, beads or charms to the candles.

  • Cut designs into white paper bags. Place electronic votives inside and place along walkways and driveways to create a lighted entry.

  • Set pillar candles inside terra cotta pots and place in the center of table settings. Surround them with flowers and potted plants for extra punches of color.

  • Place taper candles inside empty bottles and allow wax to drip along bottle, creating an interesting look.

Using candles is a wonderful way to bring light to any occasion. Candles make both beautiful centerpieces and accent pieces. Experiment with different looks and find what suits your style. Only use scented candles when you know that it will not affect your guests. Otherwise, change up the scents to match the seasons.
