- Consider your color choice for the home before you shop for paint. Think about the overall decor of the home, such as your furniture, window treatment and your lifestyle as well as taste. Think about your color preference do you prefer warm cool colors, bold colors or perhaps neutral.
- Go to your local paint store or hardware store, and select three primary color swatches and two secondary color swatches of your color choice. Look for large swatches because they will help you visualize better how the room will look after painting. Place the color swatches on the wall and leave them there for a couple of days to see if they are ideal for your home.
- Establish continuity in the rooms when you paint and create harmony. Do this by painting the room with a color of an item you already have in the home such as furniture pieces.
- Use primary color paint along with accent paint color in each room alternating each color. So, if your color choices include red, gold and cream, you will choose one dominant color from the group and add two of the secondary colors.
- Create harmony by using paint in all areas of the home such as on the trimming, molding, ceiling and other fixtures in the home to the other colors use in the home. For example, paint the trim in your dining room with cream color and the walls gold to flow with the cream walls and gold accent pillows in the living room.
- Buy one of the color selection software available at most paint stores, and take pictures of your home interior and use the software to determine the best color flow options for your home.
