How to Make Large Paper Flowers
Large paper flowers can be utilized to decorate a Christmas tree, as a flower arrangement or to decorate a dorm room. This is a great project for young crafters to make for Mother’s Day. Senior citizens in a nursing home would love to receive the flowers, especially if it included a visit from a child or group of children.
Items Needed:
- Colored tissue paper
- Dowel rods
- Glue
- Green floral tape
- Green pipe cleaners
- Select 10 to 12 sheets of the colored tissue paper, and place the paper on a flat surface stacked neatly one sheet on top of the next. Some people prefer paper flowers to be the same color, while others may place four red sheets on bottom, four orange sheets in the middle and four yellow sheets on top or some similar color scheme.
- Fan fold all sheets to be included in the paper flower beginning with the closest side in 1 to 1 1/4-inch pleats. Continue to the side farthest away.
- Fold the paper in half and place a green pipe cleaner around the fold.
- Twist the pipe cleaner firmly to hold the paper in place.
- Place a wooden dowel rod in the center of the paper on top of the pipe cleaner and twist securely to hold the dowel rod. If the dowel rod has a hole near the top, pull the pipe cleaner through the hole to anchor.
- Add a touch of glue to the dowel rod and pipe cleaner, and allow glue to dry.
- Pull the top sheet of tissue paper to the center, carefully separating the top sheet from the other sheets, and then pull the next sheet of paper to the center until all sheets have been worked toward the center.
- Wrap green floral tape around the dowel rod for the stem of the flower.
