How to Make Lolita Fashion Clothes
The Lolita fashion trend originated in the Kansai region of Japan and has slowly trickled its way into the western world. This clothing has a childlike appeal, hence the name “Lolita.” You do not need expert sewing skills to create this clothing but knowing how to run a sewing machine does help.
- Find clothing that you can alter and add trim to. This may be as simple as running to your closet and finding that black skirt that you didn’t know what to do with or running to your local thrift store and finding that simple black dress that nobody wanted anymore.
- Pick up some lace and or tulle at your local fabric store. Make sure they are in bold, bright colors because the Lolita style is based on bright contrasting trims.
- Use either your sewing machine or hand sewing and add the trim that you chose onto your garment. If you are just adding some trim to a sleeve on a blouse, then you should be able to hand sew this on with minimal experience. Items that are a little larger may need to be sewn with the sewing machine. This will also add some durability in the long run. Measure the length of the garment you want to add trim to and then measure the trim length accordingly.
- Purchase your own fabric as an option and create your own Lolita fashion clothes at home from scratch. Just purchase and follow patterns for blouses and skirts. Choose soft subtle fabrics for blouses and plaids for skirts to keep with the schoolgirl look.
