How to Make Model Horse Bridles

A lot of people collect model horses and like to put them on display. Some people choose to make their own horse bridles instead of buying them to help save money. Most of the materials used to build the horse bridles are found in arts and crafts stores.

Things You'll Need:

  • Tape Measure

  • Glue

  • Scissors

  • Metal Rings

  1. Make the noseband first with leather or ribbon. Make sure you build the noseband to the proper length by measuring the diameter of the horse’s nose. Glue the pieces together and let it dry for several minutes.

  2. Create the cheek pieces with the same leather and ribbon pieces. Use scissors to cut the pieces to the size you want them to be. The cheek pieces should be long enough to reach both corners of the horse’s mouth.

  3. Attach a small metal ring to the cheek piece. Use the same type of glue to attach the metal ring. Make sure you fold the piece of leather around the noseband and attach the ring inside the fold.

  4. Glue the buckles on the cheek pieces. Also make sure you glue the center bar underneath the strip that's threaded through the buckle.

  5. Make the throat latch with the same leather and ribbon pieces. Make sure you don't pull the latch tight and attach the buckle to the left side of the horse.

  6. Make and attach a brow to the throat latch. Measure the horse’s forehead before constructing the brow and also leave a little extra room on each side.
