Nail technicians are certified to perform manicures and pedicures on clients. You can earn great income working as a nail technician. Great customer service skills and the way you treat your clients will help spread word of mouth and build your clientele which will also boost your income.
- Apply at a cosmetology school. You must complete a certain number of classroom and practical hours to become a certified nail technician. This varies from state to state so check the requirements for your state.
- Apply to take the state board exam. After you have finished the requirements and successfully graduated from the cosmetology course you need to apply with your local state board. You must also send any applicable fees associated with the application. You will receive an admission letter several weeks after you have applied.
- Apply for a position as a nail technician. Once you have passed your state board exam and received your license, you are now able to work. New graduates are often asked to perform a manicure or pedicure on a model when interviewing. Be prepared to have someone to work on for your interview.
- Build your clientele. Have business cards made with your name and contact information. Give them to your current customers and ask them to spread the word on your behalf. Offer a discount to your customers for their referrals. This will motivate them to bring you more business.
- Save up your money to open your own place. Once you have built clientele, look for your own shop or salon. Return to the former school you attended for cosmetology to scout future nail technicians and offer them a chance to work in your salon once they have completed school and obtained their license.
