How to Make Money in Auto Detailing

Let's face it, cars can become dirty quickly, especially if someone has children. Auto detailing provides a valuable service for those who do not have time to detail their own vehicles. Making money in auto detailing requires a little advertising and great service.

  1. Purchase auto cleaning supplies. You will need waxes, polish, scratch removal products, compounds, soap, sponges, rim cleaner, glass cleaner and rags. You also need to purchase a good wet/dry vacuum with mini attachments to get into all the nooks and crevices of a vehicle.

  2. Find a location. You can lease a space with a garage, set up a canopy in the parking lot of a shopping center (with permission from the center's owner) or run the business from your own garage. You can even go to the customer’s location, work or home, and detail their car. Clients appreciate having their vehicles detailed while they work because it saves them valuable time.

  3. Distribute business cards to car parts stores, valet services, auto dealerships and other car services in your area. Be sure your business card specifies they services you offer. Use the front and the back of the card to include more details.

  4. Place fliers around neighborhoods and community and advertise your services. Offer a discount if they give you the flier. This way, you can track how well the advertising is doing.

  5. Place a coupon ad in local newspapers to gain more clients.

  6. Word of mouth is the best advertising tool a business can have. If you provide excellent service a customer will refer family and friends.
