How to Make Pita Bread
This is a quick and easy recipe for delicious pita bread. It only requires a few ingredients and even the most basic cook could make it. These can be stored or eaten right from the oven. This recipe will make eight pita bread shells.
Ingredients
- 2 cups of flour
- 2 1/4 teaspoons of quick rising yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 1 1/4 cups of hot faucet water
- 1 1/2 cups of flour
Instructions
- Combine the first four ingredients in a plastic bowl. You will not want to use a metal bowl or any metal spoons when making breads with yeast. Metal will cause the yeast to not react properly.
- Beat well for one minute or so. You want to get the ingredients thoroughly mixed. If the flour is not mixing, add one teaspoon of water.
- Add the remaining flour a little at a time. You want to create a sticky dough ball.
- Take the sticky dough ball out and place on a lightly floured work surface.
- Knead for five minutes.
- Divide in eight sections.
- Using a rolling pin, roll each section out. Try to get each one into a six inch diameter.
- Using a cookie sheet, flip it over upside down. Place each section onto it, getting as many onto the sheet as possible.
- Let rise in a warm place for 30 to 45 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 450 degrees. Place the cookie sheet on the middle rack.
- Bake at 450 degrees for four minutes. You can then flip each section over and bake on the other side for four minutes.
- Remove from the oven and wrap in a dishtowel for five minutes. You can then eat them immediately or store.
