How to Make Realistic Food-Scented Candles
Realistic food scented candles add a pleasant aroma to the home making it cozy for yourself and inviting for your guests. Making homemade food scented candles is easy and does not require a lot of materials. You may even find that these candles whet your appetite.
Supplies needed:
- Double boiler
- 1 pound of beeswax
- Fragrance oil
- Candle mold with wick
- Wooden popsicle stick
- Liquid dye (optional)
1. Pour water in the bottom of the boiler until its half full. Place smaller boiler on the double boiler. A boiler with a spout makes pouring easier. Use an old boiler or one that is strictly for melting wax. Once wax has been melted in the boiler it will not be safe for cooking.
2. Place the beeswax in the top boiler and let it melt completely. The stove heat should be turned to low once it has melted.
3. Add liquid dye to the wax to change the color if you desire. Mix color in evenly using a Popsicle stick.
4. Mix the fragrance oil into the melted wax using the Popsicle stick. The oil is what gives the candle its smell so be sure to choose your favorite food smell. Depending on how fragrant you want the candle to be, follow the directions on the fragrance oil.
5. Pour the wax into candle molds. Save some wax, because each candle will need additional wax.
6. Let the wax cool. This may take up to two hours or longer. You will notice a sink hole in the center. Heat the remaining wax at a hotter temperature than the first batch of wax. Once melted, pour wax on top of the previous wax.
