How to Make Recycled Paper Gift Tags

Gift giving is about more than what is in the box. You have the opportunity to express yourself creatively when wrapping the gift. A personalized gift wrap job shows the recipient of the gift that you put a lot of thought into the present. You can personalize the wrap job by using recycled paper gift tags that are easy to make.

  1. Gather used paper that you already have. Magazines, used wrapping paper, gift bags and cards work well for gift tags. Be creative with the materials you have on hand.

  2. Pick the image that works for the holiday. For example, old Christmas cards work well for Christmas gifts.

  3. Cut out the image that you have chosen. Cut the image slightly larger than you want it to be.

  4. Glue the image that you have cut out to a piece of stock paper. If you do not have any stock paper, cardboard works as well.

  5. Wait for the glue to dry. The glue needs to be completely dry before you trim the image.

  6. Trim the image in the desired shape and size. You can cut the image into a holiday shape. For Christmas gifts, you can cut out the image in the shape of a tree or snowman. For birthday gifts, you can cut the image into a cupcake shape.

  7. Punch a hole in the edge of the tag with a small hole punch. The location of the hole should not cover the image.

  8. Place a short piece of ribbon through the hole. Choose a ribbon color that coordinates with the image and the wrapping paper.

  9. Tie or tape the ribbon to the gift. You may want to tie the ribbon all of the way around the box with the tag attached. How the tag is attached the gift is completely up to you.

  10. Write or print out the recipient’s name onto the gift tag.
