How to Make Ribbon Flowers
Ribbon flowers are a beautiful way to embellish an outfit, hairstyle or gift. They are easy to make with a few inexpensive materials. They are elegant enough for a wedding but sturdy enough for a little girl’s dress. The possibilities for your ribbon flowers are endless.
What You Will Need
- Two or three yards of wired ribbon. The ribbon should be at least 1½ inch wide. The wider the ribbon, the bigger your ribbon flower will be.
- Pencil.
- Scissors
- Needle-nose pliers
- Green ribbon or floral tape.
- Needle.
- Thread that is the color of the ribbon.
- Green thread.
- Tie a knot at one end of the ribbon.
- Pull one of the ribbon’s wires out from the end opposite the knot.
- Cut out the pulled wire with the scissors.
- Gather the ribbon along the remaining wire that is still in the ribbon.
- Wrap the ribbon securely around the pencil, starting after the knot. This makes the center of the flower.
- Take out the pencil, holding the wrapped ribbon together.
- Wrap the rest of the ribbon around the rolled center piece of ribbon. This creates the petals of the flower.
- Wrap the wire from the ribbon around the base of your flower.
- Sew a few stitches around the base of the ribbon flower to secure the petals.
- Use the needle-nose pliers to pull out the center of the flower.
- Wrap the wire at the base of the flower with green ribbon or floral tape. This creates the stem of the flower.
- Sew the green ribbon or floral tape at the bottom of the stem to hold the ribbon or tape in place.
