How to Make Rubber-Soled Shoes Slippery for Latin Dancing

Latin dancing requires smooth-bottomed shoes that allow a dancer to slide his or her feet across the dance floor. Feet that slide easily help contribute to the smooth, effortless motion of an experienced Latin dancer. Rubber-soled shoes can easily be transformed into slippery, sliding Latin dance shoes.

Items Needed:
- Coarse sandpaper
- Cloth towel
- Olive oil
- Turn the shoe over so that the rubber sole is facing upward.
- Smooth the rubber sole of the shoe. Use a piece of coarse sandpaper in order to smooth the surface of the sole. Rub the sandpaper across the bottom of the shoe in a circular motion. Begin at the toe of the shoe and work your way backward toward the heel. Continue moving the coarse sandpaper in a circular motion across the entire bottom of the shoe until the tread and texture of the rubber sole have been smoothed.
- Pour a small amount of olive oil onto a soft cotton towel.
- Use the damp cotton towel to buff the rubber sole of the dancing shoe. Move the cotton towel in a circular motion across the bottom of the shoe, just as you did when sanding the shoe. Start at the toe and work your way toward the heel to ensure that you have buffed the entire surface of the dancing shoe. Use a clean towel to remove excess olive oil from the sole of the shoe.
- Obtain a fresh piece of coarse sandpaper and repeat this process with the other shoe.
