How to Make Side Seam Moccasins

Side seam moccasins are very simple to make. They are made from only two pieces of fabric, the top part and the sole of the shoe. There is only one seam on the side of the moccasin that you have to sew. You can make a moccasin in only a few hours.

  1. Put on an old pair of socks on your feet. Put duct tape around the socks, making sure every part of the socks are covered by the duct tape.

  2. Use a marker to outline the seams of the shoe on the duct tape. There should be a seam created between the sole of the shoe, the top part of the moccasin, and the seam on the side and top of the moccasin where you put your feet into the shoe.

  3. Use a pair of scissors to carefully cut the sock from your foot cutting on the seams you marked. Lay brown felt down on the table, and then put the sock pattern over it. Use a piece of chalk to trace a pattern around the sock. Add ¼ inches in each director to allow for your seams, and then cut the moccasins.

  4. Use pins to pin the soles of the moccasins to the top part of them. Sew them together, sewing on the seams using a needle and thread. Do these steps for the other moccasin. Turn the moccasins inside out when you are finished. Put them on your feet and try them on. Should now have a completed pair of moccasins to wear.
