How to Make Suits

Women's suits come in many different combinations and styles. Shopping for suits is not only expensive; it also takes up a lot of time. It would save you a whole lot of time and money if you did not buy a suit. If you possess tailoring and sewing skills you can make your own.

  1. Figure out what style and pattern you would like to use for the suit. Know if you would like the suit to have pockets on it or not.

  2. Select a fabric that you would like the suit to be. Follow the instructions on the pattern envelope.

  3. Purchase what you need for the suit. These items may include: buttons, thread, trim, shoulder pads and zippers.

  4. Cut out the patterns that you are going to be using for the suit. Only cut the pieces that you are going to need out of the fabric that you have. Label all of the pieces until you are ready to sew.

  5. Smooth all of the wrinkles out of the fabric. You should press the fabric gently using a little heat.

  6. Make sure that the pattern fits you. You might have to have it altered to make sure that it is exactly your size. You should also have the hems, sleeves and the bust area adjusted as you need them to be.

  7. Follow the instructions that came with the patterns so you know how to pin the patterns to the fabric correctly. Follow the directions to sew all of the fabric pieces to the suit properly.
