How to Make Your Own Award Plaques
Award plaques are often handed out to individuals for their achievements in life. Creating your own award plaques will allow you to make them more personal and unique. You won't need many tools, but this project could take a while depending upon how detailed you make them.
Things You'll Need:
- Poster Board
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Wood
- Scroll Saw
- Wood Stain
- Goggles
- Make a template of how you want the main design of the plaque to look like. Draw your design on a piece of poster board with a pencil. Use a pencil because it will be much easier to correct your mistakes.
- Purchase a block of wood at a local lumberyard. Purchase quality wood so it doesn't wear out over time. You want the plaque to last for a long time. There should be an expert at the lumberyard who can help you pick a nice piece of wood for making a plaque.
- Cut your template out with scissors. Make sure you take your time when cutting the template so you don't cut away too much. Starting over will make the project take a lot longer.
- Trace the template on the block of wood with a pencil
- Cut the template design into the wood with a scroll saw. Wear goggles when cutting the wood so you don't hurt your eyes.
- Make any other designs you want in the wood with the scroll saw.
- Apply wood stain on the plaque to give it a nice look. The wood stain will also help prolong the life of the plaque.
