How to Make Your Own Garden Planter
Garden planters are popular items that are used for many things in gardens. Some are used for decoration, some are used for separating plant species and others are used for growing plants in small areas. One basic type of garden planter is a rectangular box planter made out of wood.
What You Will Need
- 2 two-by-one foot wood sheet, 1-inch thick
- 2 one-by-one foot wood sheet, 1-inch thick
- Two 2-foot by 3-inch wide wood planks
- Three 1-foot by 6-inch wide wood planks
- Nails
- Hammer
- Black plastic
- Band clamp
- Scissors
- Wood glue
- Wood varnish
- Paint brush
- Setup the wooden sheets to form a rectangular box. Use the wood glue on the edges of the square sheets where they will be connected to the rectangular pieces of wood. Use a band clamp to clamp the sheets of wood together. Allow the wood glue to dry.
- Nail each of the sides together using the hammer and nail.
- Remove the band clamp from the planter frame.
- Place the 2-foot planks on a level surface spaced 1 foot apart from each other. Place the other 3-foot planks across the 2-foot planks. They should be spaced apart from each other; one in the middle and one on each end.
- Nail three planks onto the other planks. This will create the base of the planter.
- Flip the base over, so the 2-foot planks are now on the top. Place the base over the rectangular frame. Nail the base of the planter into the rectangular frame.
- Use your paint brush to apply varnish on to the planter. Allow the varnish to dry completely.
- Use the black plastic to line the planter box.
- Poke holes into the bottom of the plastic to allow for water drainage.
