How to Make Your Own Pet Tags

Every pet should wear a tag that can be used to identify its owner if the pet gets lost. Although the tags can be purchased at your local pet store, you can make your own tags at home for a fraction of the price.

Most pet owners think of their pets as part of the family and it would be traumatic if the pet were to ever get lost. For this reason, you should do everything you can to keep your pet safe and happy. Equipping your pet with a tag is one of the first things you should do to ensure their safety. It is something you can easily make in a matter of minutes.

  1. Use a piece of shrinky dink paper and draw an outline of what you want your pet tag to look like. The drawing should be twice as large as you want it to appear around your pet's neck because it will be shrunk down. This is the point where you can be creative. You can make the shape of the tag to be unique, which is something that will be easily identifiable if your pet were to ever get lost. The shrinky dink paper can be purchased at your local arts and crafts store.

  2. Use color pencils to write down any information that will identify your pet. The pencils should also be used to add color to the tag.

  3. Use scissors to cut out the tag.

  4. Use a hole punch to put a hole in the top of the tag. This is where the keychain will go.

  5. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees.

  6. Put the tag on a tin pan and place the pan in the oven for one minute. The heat will cause the tag to shrink and harden.

  7. Remove from oven and allow to cool.

  8. Place the tag on a chain and put around pet's neck.
