How to Make a Baby Prairie Bonnet
A baby prairie bonnet is a great option for keeping baby safe from the sun's harmful rays. Baby prairie bonnets are not as common as they used to once be, so making your own will save you the time and trouble of hunting one down in your local store.
- Spend some time browsing your local fabric store for both the bonnet pattern and the material you will use in your bonnet. You may feel overwhelmed by all the fabric and pattern choices available, so don't hesitate to ask one of the workers for their assistance and opinions. Consider using two complimentary colors or patterns in your bonnet rather than just one. Also, pick up some ribbons or lace to use as a decorative trimming on your bonnet.
- Trace and cut the pattern out of your material making sure to use fabric shears rather than ordinary kitchen scissors. Fabric shears are made specifically for cutting through fabric without damaging it.
- Begin sewing your bonnet pieces together as per the instructions in your pattern kit. You will sew the head part of the bonnet together first before attaching the brim and tie pieces. If you have purchased any additional pieces of ribbon to use as an embellishment, sew these on now.
- Finish your baby prairie bonnet off with any of the smaller decorative pieces you purchased. Using a hot glue gun to adhere these to the hat, make sure you get the edges stuck down securely so they don't fall off if baby decides to look at her hat up close.
