How to Make a Faux Poster Bed

The beds of kings, queens, princes and princesses are ones that people have admired for centuries.  Four tall poles, a canopy and long curtains make for a bed that everyone would love to sleep in; however, not everyone has the money or the space for these types of beds.  If you lack the funds or the square footage, you can create the illusion of a poster bed by adding tall poles or suspending drapes from the ceiling.

Adding Poles

1.  Measure the space between the floor of your bedroom and the ceiling.

2.  Purchase four pieces of wood, PVC pipes or cardboard containers that have been cut to the exact size of your measurement.

3.  Paint the wood, pipe or cardboard any color that will match your décor.

4.  Secure the poles to the floor, sides of the bed or the ceiling with L-shaped brackets and screws.  The L-shape makes these brackets perfect for mounting your poles on the floor, bedrails or ceiling.  You can paint over the brackets and screws so they cannot be seen.

5.  Admire your bed.  Now, it looks just like a big, fancy poster bed.

Suspending Drapes

1.  Measure the length and width of your bed.

2.  Purchase four pieces of bamboo, pipes or tubes that have been cut to your measurements.

3. Using fishing line, tie the pieces of bamboo, pipes or tubes to hang about eight inches from the ceiling.  You can put hooks on the ceiling to hang the pipes.  Paint the hooks the same color as your ceiling to keep them from being seen. Make sure the pieces of pipe, bamboo or tubes are parallel with the sides of your bed.

4.  Hang drapes, curtains or pieces of material over the suspended pipes.  Make sure that the material touches the floor of your bedroom.

5.  Admire your creative work.  Your bed is fit for a king.
