How to Make a Flip Book Animation Online

An animated flipbook is a simple way to make your own animated book. In an animated flipbook, there is an image on every page that varies slightly from the image on the previous page. Flipping through the book produces a cartoon. Online tools provide resources to create a flip book using still frames from a video.

Materials needed:

  • Printer

  • Digital video file

  1. Go to benettonplay.com. Click where it says "flipbook" and select the "make" option. The "make" option will be under the flipbook button.

  2. Click on the button that says "proceed anyway" and create a free flipbook as a guest. If you do not mind paying to use this website, or are already a member, you can make an account by clicking the button that says "go to login".

  3. Select a color from the color palette that is located on the left side of the window. Select the thickness that you would like for the drawing tool in the section named "brush".

  4. Press and hold the mouse on the blank window to create a drawing. Start by drawing the images for the background. Repeat steps three and four for different colors and thickness for different elements.

  5. Using the third and fourth steps, draw the figure that will be featured in your flipbook.

  6. Click on the "duplicate" button on the bottom right of the window.

  7. Delete sections of the drawing that will show movement. You can erase sections by clicking white on the color palette. Draw the movement that will appear next.

  8. Repeat steps six and seven to create frames that will show movement. Do not forget that each frame will show movement, so frames that have changes that are subtle will have a slow motion effect.

  9. Click on the link that says "preview" on the left. Cycle through your frames to preview your flipbook. To continue editing, click on the "stop preview" button.

  10. When finished, click on the "save" link and save your flipbook. To save, the file has to have ten frames or more.
