How to Make a Garden Seat
Gardens can be one of the most beautiful elements to your home. However, most people enjoy having a place to sit and admire their hard work. This is the goal of a garden seat. However, garden seats can be expensive if purchased from a store. Luckily, it is a simple process to create a seat for you garden.
Items Needed:
- Five pieces of lumber
- Wood Finishing
- Pain
- Hammer
- Nails
- Saw
- Determine the size of garden seat you wish to build. Measure the dimensions of the location where the seat will go, and then cut your pieces of lumber accordingly. Cut two of the pieces of lumber to create the legs and support structures for the backrest. The other two pieces will serve as the seat and the backrest. Ideally, you will want to make the legs of the garden seat 10-12 inches long. This will allow individuals with long legs to sit comfortably.
- Use the hammer to drive the legs of the seat into the soil. This will ensure that the chair is properly secured. Also, by securing the legs first, you will not create indentations in the seat. You should strive to force the legs at least four inches into the soil.
- Place the piece of lumber that will be the actual seat across the legs. You will want to use two nails on each end of the seat. Ensure that the nails go through the seat and penetrate the legs by at least an inch. This will provide a secure sitting surface.
- Nail the two pieces of support to the backrest. The support pieces will be nailed to the seat to provide a more comfortable sitting experience. Place the support pieces so that they are slightly inside of the legs.
- Secure the backrest to the seat. You will want to use two nails for each of the two securing back supports. This will ensure that the seat is stable. Otherwise, it will be possible for the backrest come loose when someone is sitting in the garden seat.
- Apply the wood finish and paint. The finish will protect your new garden seat from weathering, and the paint will provide a professional look to your seat. Allow the wood to dry for a full day before attempting to sit on it.
