How to Make a Lace Front Wig
For a custom fit measure the person's head from all angles.
Cover the person's head with cellophane and twist it just under the earlobes.
Cover the cellophane with strips of cellophane filament tape. Continue doing this until you have four layers of tape. This is done to make a cast of the person's head.
Remove the cast from their head and put it on a wig block.
Using a grease pencil, trace the hairline of the person's head, from the edges of the cast all around the wig block.
Place a large polyester cotton lace on the wig form and cut it according to the outline on the wig block.
Place a finer piece of lace on top of the lace and pin from front to back.
Comb through the hair with a hackle, which is a large comb that looks like a brush.
Use scissors to trim the ends of the hair.
Press the tail of the hair into a holding card.
Pull a few strands of hair out of the tail using a hooked needle.
Starting at the nape of the neck, use the needle to pass the strands of hair into the lace and knot.
Take one strand at a time and knot the hair at the front of the lace wig.
Style the wig as desired and cut the excess lace from the edges.
