How to Make a Miniature Crazy Quilt With a Machine

Many experienced quilters have leftover pieces of fabric after finishing their projects. One of the things that you can create with your leftover fabric is a miniature crazy quilt. This quilt can be easily sewn using a sewing machine. It is a charming project that will solve the question of what to do with your leftover fabric.

Things You Will Need:

  • Fabric scraps

  • Sewing machine

  • Straight pins

  • Scissors

  • Paper

  • Template or sewing pattern

  1. Obtain a template or pattern. You can either print one from an online database, or draw an original pattern that you create. You can avoid purchasing special pattern paper and just use plain white paper to create your pattern. Be sure to number your pattern. The middle square should be number 1, and the following pieces should be labeled from the center accordingly.

  2. Cut your chosen fabric for the center square. Allow a 1/4-inch seam allowance on all sides of the center square. Flip your paper pattern over so that you are looking at the bottom of the paper. Use straight pins to pin the center square right-side-up to the bottom of the pattern. Turn the pattern back over so that the right side is facing up. Stitch the center square onto the paper so that it is secured in place.

  3. Choose the fabric for the next spot on your pattern. Cut the fabric and account for the 1/4-inch seam allowance. Pin this piece of fabric to the center square. Ensure that the right sides of the fabric pieces match up. Turn the pattern back over and stitch the pieces together on the line. Repeat this process and continue attaching fabric pieces in a clockwise manner until your quilt is completed.

  4. Remove the paper from the back of your quilt. Pull the paper apart gently to ensure that you do not damage any of your seams.
