How to Make a Photo 3D in Photoshop
Creating a three-dimensional image using Adobe's Photoshop is a fairly simple way to make an eye-catching picture. To make an image three-dimensional, you need to add something behind it, creating the illusion that the image is jumping off the page. 3D images are very useful on webpages to create buttons that stand-out and for creating images that pop.
- Open Adobe Photoshop and then the picture that you want to make 3D.
- From the "Main Menu," choose "Layer," then "New" and "Layer from Background." This will allow you to remove the picture from it's background and insert your own background.
- Enter the "Layers" menu again and select "New" and then "Layer." To set the new layer, click "OK."
- Enter the "Layers" window by clicking "Window" and then "Layers" from the "Main Menu."
- Click and drag the top layer, which should be the layer that you added in the previous step, and place it at the bottom of the list.
- From the "Main Menu" choose "Image" and then "Canvas Size," and add an inch to the width and height, creating a blank border around the main image.
- Right-click on the "Layers" window and choose "Blending Options."
- From the left pane, choose the "Drop Shadow" feature. Below the "Structure" section, move the "Distance" bar to around 10 pixels.
- Also on the left pane, is the option "Bevel and Emboss." Choose this feature and then click "OK."
- If you plan to use the image online, save it as a JPEG, GIF, or PNG file. If the image will be printed save it as a TIF, EPS or PDF file.
