How to Make a Privacy Chain Link Fence
Recent updates in materials have made it much easier to install a privacy chain link fence. Now they come with slats that are already woven into the chain link fabric. This saves the time of having to install the slats individually.
Things you will need:
- Mark the lines for your fence. Use the twine and tie it between two stakes to mark the boundary lines for your fence. Divide the total distance between the boundary lines by 10 in order to find the equal distance that you will need to have between the corner post and the line post. Position the stakes in the ground to mark where the post holes should go.
- Dig holes for the posts. Using a post hole digger, dig the holes for the corner poles and the line poles. The holes need to be at least 20 inches deep and 2 inches wider at the bottom than at the top.
- Mix the concrete. Pour the concrete into each hole. Next, put the corner poles in by pushing the poles down into the concrete mixture in the middle of the hole. Allow the cement to dry for 24 hours.
- Install tension bands. The tension bands need to face the outside of the fence. Next, place a rail end into the end of the first top rail and connect it to the first corner pole using the brace band. Attach the rail end to the brace band with a carriage bolt. Continue this same process until you reach the next terminal post. Once you reach it, use a rail cutter to cut the top rail.
- Roll out the fence. Place the fabric against the corner pole then secure the tension bar with tension bands. Connect the fabric to the top rail with tie wires.
- Stretch the fabric. Use the fence stretcher to stretch it out and make sure to follow the instructions in the manual for tightening.
