How to Make a Schedule for House Cleaning

Cleaning the house can seem like a daunting task sometimes.  Learn how to make a schedule for house cleaning chores, and the process will become more manageable.  By making a schedule of all the to-dos of the day it will start to become second nature and before you know it your cleaning obligations are over.

Let's face it.  Cleaning the house is never on anyone's "must do" list.  Cleaning the house is just one of those necessary evils we do day in and day out.  Cleaning the house can sometimes be an overwhelming task.  By making a schedule for house cleaning, you will start to feel more in control of your home and feel a sense of pride and accomplishment.  Making a cleaning schedule isn't difficult.  Just follow these steps to creating your own schedule and some examples and you will be on your way to a cleaner, more efficient home.

  • Make a list of everything in your household that needs cleaning.  This may not be something that needs to be done every day, but will need to be done on a weekly or monthly basis.

  • Figure out how much time you can allot yourself each day for cleaning.  Some days you may have more time to devote to cleaning than others.  You may only have an hour during the weekdays, but can give yourself three hours on the weekend.

  • Once you have established the chores to be done and the time to devote each day, you can begin assigning yourself daily tasks.  For instance, if you have mopping the kitchen and bathroom floors, this would need to be on a day where you gave yourself more time for cleaning.

Daily Cleaning Tasks

  • Dishes - Unless you go out to eat every night, you have dishes to do.  To avoid washing dishes multiples times a day, wash them after dinner before you sit down to relax for the evening.

  • Laundry - This is something you may or may not have to do daily.  If you have a large family, more than likely you will have at least one load to do.  This will help not having to do several loads at the end of the week.  If you only have a few items to wash, then skip a day or two.  Always check every day to see what is in the laundry basket.

  • Paperwork - We all get mail every day.  But piling it up for days will not help anyone.  To help stop the massive pile from building on your desk or counter take a few minutes to organize your mail or address certain items that need to be taken care of that day.

  • Sweep - This is something that usually would be a weekly task instead of a daily task.  However, there may be times after meals or from cooking a good sweep is in order.  Just take a look around at the end of the day to see if it is necessary.

Weekly Cleaning Tasks

  • Dusting - Dust is everywhere and builds up on a daily basis.  However, dusting daily isn't necessary.  By the end of the week there will be enough to dust without there being a thick layer.

  • Vacuum/Sweep - Pick a day you gave yourself more time for cleaning.  Do not do this on a day you gave yourself an hour for all your daily cleaning tasks.

  • Mop - This is for a day with more time to devote to the task.  This usually would entail the kitchen and bathroom floors.

Once your schedule is in practice, you will start to become more efficient.  Sticking to a schedule for house cleaning will put you in control of your household and give you a sense of accomplishment.  Happy cleaning.
