How to Make a Yoga Mat Carrier
If you participate in the art of yoga and have your own mat it is highly recommended that you place your yoga mat in a carrier when it is not in use. You can easily make your own mat by following a few simple instructions.
Items Needed:
- Yoga Mat
- Sewing Machine
- Tape Measure
- Pins
- Fabric
- String
- Roll up your yoga mat. This should be done so you can take measurements to find out how large the carrier would need to be.
- Use the tape measure to measure the mat. You will need to measure both the length and the circumference of the mat while it is rolled up. Add an additional 3-inches for the seams and 3-inches to the length to accommodate room for the drawstring on top of the carrier.
- Lay your fabric out on a flat surface and cut the fabric according to the measurements you have just taken.
- Cut out a circle from the fabric to use as the base of the bag. Use the circumference measurements and add an additional 2-inches for the seam.
- Use the same fabric and make a strap for the carrier. The strap will need to be the exact same length as the bag. It should be approximately 4-inches in width.
- Use the sewing machine to sew the strap. Sew the two ends together lengthwise to form a tube.
- Form the bag. Fold the top of the fabric down and use the sewing machine to secure it in place. This is where the drawstring will be placed.
- Sew the ends of the bag together. The material should be inside out and should form a tube once sewn together.
- Use the sewing machine to attach the circle shape to the bottom of the bag.
- Pull the outside of the bag back to the outside.
- Attach the strap to the outside of the bag.
- Attach a safety pin to the end of a piece of string and use the pin to pull it through the tube you have created for the drawstring.
