There’s nothing more fun and exciting for a child than to be wearing an army ant costume. You can create your own army costume at home with a few household products. Most often army ants are found in colonies that are ruled by a queen. The army ants carry the work down.
Items Needed to Make an Army Ant Costume:
- Fabric
- Long Pants
- Head Band
- Army Boots
- Rubber Hose
- Duct Tape
How to Make an Army Ant Costume
- Locate as much brown clothing as possible. If you possible, use a brown long sleeves shirt and pants. Look for army boots to wear as part of the costume as well. These boots can be in brown or black.
- Purchase a tight fitting headband. You want the headband to be sturdy enough to hold to rubber hoses or rubber pipes.
- Take a long brown comforter or blanket and roll it with cotton or other type fabric inside. Secure the fabric inside with tape. Take a long rope and tie the comforter off above the bottom of the comforter. You will be dividing the comforter roll, but you want it to appear larger at the bottom. The top part will be the ant head.
- Use duct or masking tape depending upon the person wearing the costume. You can also use a belt to secure the small blanket around the person’s waist. Be sure it is secured but not too tight.
- You can add special items such as a crown, play rifle and different color effects to the outfit.
