How to Manage Successful IT Outsourcing Relationships

How to Manage IT Outsourcing

In-house IT can be a major expense for businesses, which is why outsourcing common functions makes the best sense for most companies. However, managing IT outsourcing takes planning and having a clear understanding of what the vendor and you expect once the transition is complete. Selecting the vendor is also part of the managing the outsourcing.

  1. Realize that there are different
types of vendor contracts when it comes to outsourcing your IT
functions. For instance, you need a vendor that can meet your
expectations of deadlines, quality, how calls are tracked, level of
support needed along with your budget. All of these factors need to
be addressed before any contracts are signed since these are
typically binding unless one of you violates the terms.

  2. Take a look at what the vendor's
current list of clients are and check reviews if possible. Placing
your customers in the hands of an IT outsource team is no easy task
because it means you are fully relying on them to make you as a
company look good. If they fail to do their job correctly, they are
not the ones that will look bad in the customer's eyes, you will.
Therefore, selection is vital before you sign over your customers.

  3. Keep a close working relationship
with the vendor after you select one for your company. You want to
make sure you are getting reports on how long it takes for the
support staff to answer the phones to make sure it is within the
agreed upon time per contract. The vendor should send you other
reports relating to additional IT functions you have outsourced.
