How to Manage Time for Home Schooling

Homeschooling your children is a challenging but rewarding task. Not only are you teaching your children, but you must clean the house, run errands and take care of yourself and any children that are not of school age. Finding the time to homeschool is difficult, but well managed with some good organizational skills and helping hands.

  • You should go over your homeschooling curriculum the night before. It is not as critical when your children are younger, but as they get older you may find that you need to brush up on your skills a bit. In addition, get all of your books, paperwork, tests and other materials in order. If you have a science or art project you would want to gather the materials for that as well.

  • Have everyone’s clothes ready to go at the start of your day. It is best to do this the night before so that you are not scrambling for things in the morning.

  • Have your children be active participants when it comes to cleaning. There are many chores that they are capable of doing. This would be a big time saver for Mom. Even the youngest may be able to do things like dusting or even picking up their own toys. Start early teaching the children chores and responsibilities. They will be helpful to you and learn something very important by doing this.

  • Promote teaching while you are doing certain types of errands. A trip to the grocery store is quite a learning experience if you use it as such. Your math class for a particular day could include weighing fruits and vegetables or finding the most economical name brand of a product by comparing price and weight.

  • Teaching your children in groups is sometimes effective for them and will save you time. You can usually teach two and even three grades of children at one time with different levels of complexity amongst them. If you have a second and a third grader this is easily accomplished.
