How to Market an Interior Designer Business

Successfully marketing an interior design business requires the designer to promote the company to a wide variety of potential clients. The owner will need to set aside enough funds to use for marketing until the revenue from the business covers the expense. Once the business grows, the owner can then branch out into other types of marketing.

  1. Display your interior design creations in a brochure to mail to prospective clients. Pick a design that best shows your talents and then include some text describing your design philosophy. Work with a local printing company to create the brochure and order a supply that will last.

  2. Create a mailing list of clients that you want to mail the brochure to. Find the addresses of appropriate local businesses such as homebuilders, general contractors and other professionals in the home industry. Include your business card with each brochure you mail.

  3. Have an open house to show off your interior designs. If you work out of your home, arrange a picture display of your best designs in an open area for visitors to review. Invite as many people as you can fit in your home, or stagger the times that you use for the event so people are constantly streaming through your home.

  4. Build a website to use for marketing your designs. Upload images of your designs and check the website to make sure the images are not blurry. Include your biography on the website so potential clients can see your credentials. Offer a discount for online clients if they use your services by a certain date.

  5. Place an ad in your local Yellow Pages and newspaper. Review other interior design advertisements to get an idea of the type of ad you should use. Find out the cost of each ad so you stay within your marketing budget. Cancel the newspaper ad if you do not receive any business within a month.
