How to Measure For Patio Furniture Covers
Cover your patio furniture any time you are storing it for the fall and winter. Covering your furniture protects it from dirt and grime, and also from dings and other damage. When you purchase pre-made patio furniture covers, decide whether you want to purchase individual covers or covers designed to fit your entire set. Regardless of which type of cover you choose, you'll need accurate measurements to make sure you get the right fit.
- Group together or stack any furniture that will be stored together. If you are planning to buy individual covers for each chair, bench and table, leave the furniture separate. Grouping or stacking your furniture lets you move it more easily to the side or into a shed or garage to store during the off season.
- Measure each stack or piece of furniture from each of the farthest points across to the next farthest point. Make sure you are accounting for each corner in your measurements. If possible, make a simple diagram so you can mark the measurements on the drawing and you'll know at a glance where you still need to measure.
- Measure from the top of the highest point of each stack or piece of furniture to the ground. Some patio furniture covers are designed to go all the way to the ground, whereas others are designed to cover only a part of the furniture.
- Write down all of your measurements. You can do this on a diagram or in a list format, but it is essential to write down each measurement as you take it. Having a written list helps when you go into the store so you aren't guessing or relying solely on your memory.
