How to Measure Heel Height in Dress Shoes

For many women high heel shoes are a signature style. Knowing the measurements for high heels is important at times to make sure that you have the right heel height for your outfit. You don’t want your dress or pants dragging on the floor while wearing your shoes or get tangled up in your clothes because of your shoes. You want to have that perfect height for your high heel dress shoes.

Things you need:

  • High heel dress shoes

  • Measuring tape

  1. Find a dress shoe that is a comfortable fit on your feet. Make sure your foot is on a flat surface and put the shoe on. Put and equal amount of weight on the shoe as though you were walking on it. This will allow for you to get the most accurate high heel measurement.

  2. Measure the back of the heel of the dress shoe. Begin using the measuring tape from the bottom of the heel and stretch it to the top of the heel. The top of the heel is the point where the heel connects to the sole or the seam of your shoe, which is also the flat part of the shoe. Measure the heal reading it to the nearest half inch, such as 3 inches or 3 1/2 inches.

  3. Measure the heel of the other shoe to compare measurements. Use the exact same type of measurement as above for the other shoe. The other shoe should have the same measurement for the heel height as the first shoe.

  4. Measure both heels at least twice to make sure to get the most accurate measurement. You can also remove the shoes and measure the heel height again just to double-check your measurements for your high heel dress shoes.
